Hey folks! Today I’m happy to introduce you to A.C. Melody and her story The Zen Lounge!

~ * ~ BIO ~ * ~

A.C. Melody lives in Washington State, is the proud mom of two amazing sons – okay, so they’re typical boys and always keep her on her toes! Stemming from a family of artists and musicians, she thrives in all things creative and would call a day without her MP3 player and coffee a day of reckoning. When she’s not writing, reading, drawing or cheering on the sidelines at football games, A.C. Also enjoys gardening, which has honed her ability to dodge raindrops into an enviable skill.

~ * ~ ABOUT THE BOOK ~ * ~

If you could share one major writing tip, which could assist other writers in their goal of publication, what would it be and how have you implemented it in your own career?

I’m not even going to pretend that I have enough experience under my belt to hand out excellent advice. I know I’ve put in my own time swimming through the plethora of writing tips, how-to articles and author’s helpful hints (that doesn’t end once you’re published!) Sometimes, your mind just goes numb and you’re lucky to remember half of what you’ve read.

Instead, I’m simply going to share a mistake I almost made. Technically, I did make it, but rather than leaving me in a pile of regret, it has now become a line I’ll never cross again. A sacrifice, I will never foolishly think I’m willing to make. I let my emotions get the better of me. I was frustrated and down about the constant rejections, as all writers will experience at least a dozen times in their career. Yet, rather than just dusting myself off and trying again, I completely changed my story. I took a full length novel and chopped it up, basically rewrote it as a 25,000 word novella, instead.

I don’t write short stories. (Stick with what you’re good at!) I never have and I never should have tried.

I was so determined to impress a big name publisher by conforming to their criteria, that I almost lost one of my babies. The regret didn’t come right away, but very soon after I submitted the book, it steadily grew into outright panic before I finally – thankfully! – received a rejection letter. It felt like one of my worst close-calls ever.

Now, I’m not referring to the necessary adjustments we make in order to meet submission guidelines by meeting word count limits, double spacing, correct font, etc. I had to take over 3,000 words out for The Zen Lounge, but not a single one omitted changed the story a single bit. With my mistake book, however, I didn’t just trim the hedges, I put my Hickory shirt on and went logging! And one of two really, really bad things would have happened had it been accepted:

1. I would have turned my first offer from a publisher down and probably ruined any future chances with them and everyone they know – or –
2. I would have accepted the contract and spent the rest of my life regretting it.

So, here it is, to all of you aspiring writers out there, my one sound piece of advice: Never sell yourself or your stories short out of desperation, frustration, depression, or any other emotion that eventually ebbs and leaves you crying in remorse. Remember, once a book is published, that’s it. You can’t go back and make changes to it. It’s done the way it is. And if you know, deep in your heart that your characters had more to say, more to do, more to reveal then don’t cheat them out of the life they were meant to live or the potential they were meant to live up to, just so you can get a yes.

The right publisher is out there for your book the way it is at its core. The way you know it was meant to be, because no one will ever know that story the way you do.

Welcome to the Zen Lounge, twenty-one floors of customizable carnal pleasures to fulfill your wildest fantasies. Even in the year 2192, it shouldn’t exist but Voryk Kade simply couldn’t ignore the urge to take a closer look. What he finds is a woman bent on ruining everything he’d ever believed to be true. She holds the key to all of Voryk’s darkest, neediest desires and despite her silence, provides the proof behind his belief that there is something far seedier going on under the high-end gloss of professional eroticism.

Enlisting the help of his closest friends, Voryk’s only goal is to keep Nexlana safe, naked and his. Unfortunately, she was already someone’s favorite pet and when Master comes calling, it’s with a vengeance and the intent of never letting her slip away again. Haunted pasts continue to resurface, only Nexlana’s might be far deadlier than any of them could have guessed—connections between her, arson, an assassination and a cold case no one ever wanted to delve into again. To stop the worst case scenario from taking place, they must finally figure out just who in the hell the Master really is.

~ * ~ EXCERPT ~ * ~

Voryk simply studied her, so she studied him right back. His dark locks were mussed sexily against the sheets, wildly framing his beautiful, masculine face. His lithe, strong body was the perfect combination of sinewy muscles over the sexiest bones she’d ever seen on a man. She loved the way his shoulders were a little sharp, his collar bone defined. It appealed not only to her artistic eye, but to everything about her that was female.

His bare chest, so full of compact power and energy made Nex’s mouth water for a taste, made her fingers curl into her palms with an insatiable desire to feel. No matter how often she saw it, how many times her gaze drank in the vision he made, Nex could never get enough. Starting at that delicious collarbone, she trailed her fingertips down his torso ever so softly and watched him closely. Watched his eyes darken with renewed lust.

Then she felt her own cheeks flush. Her mouth fell open on a surprised breath when he started growing and hardening inside of her.

“Oh,” she exhaled with a burning rush of need. “Oh… yes, please.”
