So sink into your favorite chair and enjoy your holiday hangover!
As you can see by the title, I’m talking about “the hair of the dog.” Ever hear of it? For those who don’t know, it’s a phrase people use after a night of heavy whatever-you-did that put you in the bad state you’re in. From the link http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/medical/a/hair_of_the_dog.htm it claims, “Premised on the quaint notion that the best thing for what ails you is more of what ails you, “hair-of-the-dog-that-bit-you” nostrums have been popular since Shakespeare’s time (before that, etymologists tell us, the phrase referred quite literally to a method of treating dog bites)” and it also mentions cures involving deep-fried canaries and sheep’s lungs. I think I’ll stick with “the hair of the dog” found in the following recipe…
Happy New Year: Vampire Juice
~*~What you’ll need~*~
4 ounces tomato juice
2 shots of Finlandia lime vodka (or 2 ounces depending upon tools using)
A splash of steak sauce
A splash of hot sauce
1/2 teaspoon of fresh horseradish
For eyeball ice cube garnish:
a radish & a green olive with pimento
A highball glass
Ice
~*~Make the drink~*~
Add the liquid ingredients in the highball glass over ice cubes.
Mix/stir well
Add the seasonings to your taste
Garnish with a prepared eyeball by floating it in the drink, skewering it on a cocktail pick, or sticking it with a stirring fork.
For Radish Eyeball Garnish:
Peel radishes, leaving thin streaks of red skin on to represent blood vessels.
Using the tip of the vegetable peeler, or a small knife, carefully scoop out a small hole in each radish, roughly the size of an olive.
Stuff a green olive, pimiento side out, in each hole.
At this point, choose if you want to turn the eyeball into an ice cube or simply skewer it to rest on top of the drink. If opting for the ice, place one finished radish in each section of an ice cube tray (cutting it down if necessary), fill with water, and freeze overnight. If you don’t want the ice, simply place the finished eyeballs in a bowl of water and chill in the refrigerator until time for use.

When I have a super bad headache, I drink a Coke. When something causes a super bad anger (only has happened about twice that I can remember) a margarita or Tequila Sunrise made with three shots will help to get me quite calm. When I want to warm up, hot chocolate made with milk. When I want to just survive from day to day – coffee. laura.striplin@gmail.com
