ROCKET (Hades Abyss MC) by Harley Wylde

Published by Changeling Press | Cover Artist: Bryan Keller

Genres/Themes: MC Romance, Contemporary, New Adult, Interracial

ABOUT THE BOOK

Violeta — It’s been a year since I was brought to the US and given to Rocket. I’d thought he was like the others and would only cause me pain. I was wrong. Rocket is the kindest, sweetest man I’ve ever met. I arrived an abused, pregnant teen. Now I’m a more confident woman, and I have Rocket to thank. Falling in love with him was inevitable, but now I need him to see me as a desirable woman and not a girl who needs his protection.

Rocket — The young girl who came to live with me was more broken than I’d realized. The horrors she faced have made her stronger, but it didn’t happen overnight. It’s hard not to watch her, to want her. I shouldn’t. I’m too damn old for an eighteen-year-old woman. She’s not as fragile, physically and emotionally, but I can’t shut off the protector inside me that wants to shelter her and keep her safe. When she’s taken, I know that the men responsible will die. I only hope that side of me doesn’t scare my sweet Vi, but nothing will stop me from spilling their blood. I just don’t know if we can end the war before it starts, or if this will only be the beginning. I’ll keep her safe, no matter the cost, because she’s mine whether she knows it or not.

WARNING: This book contains violence, strong language, explicit sex scenes, and an abused woman. But it also has a biker who will protect the woman he loves, no cheating, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after.

What do the ARC reviews say about Rocket?

“This is such a great book. I love it! Violeta has blossomed into quite the confident young woman. Rocket is perfect for her.” — Victoria @ GoodReads

“Their love is sweet, so darn sweet but the heat isn’t missing between them either. I love the pure escapism that I find in Ms Wylde’s books. I can open one of her stories and dive right in.” — Leslee @ GoodReads

I peered out the front blinds and couldn’t contain my sigh. Rocket was outside washing his bike. Shirtless. It hadn’t taken me very long to get over my fear of him. The man had been nothing but kind to me, gentle even, as if he were afraid I’d break. No one had ever treated me better, not a male someone anyway. Even Luciana’s husband had frightened me at first. Then I’d seen the way he looked at her, knew that he cared for her, and I’d realized that there were decent men in the world. Spider was one, and so was Rocket. It had taken some time to feel the same about the rest of the Hades Abyss crew, but I now understood that I was completely safe here. None of them would hurt me, or my sister. For the first time in our lives, we were protected.

Once my fear had subsided, the little things Rocket did to take care of me had started to make me feel something. At first, I’d thought maybe I saw him as a friend or older brother, but that hadn’t felt right. It wasn’t until my sister had given me a knowing look that I’d realized I was falling in love with him. Not that it did me any good. I was seventeen, a child in his eyes. For a little while longer at any rate. I would be eighteen soon, but I didn’t know if that would matter. Just because I felt something for him didn’t mean he felt the same about me. He never did anything inappropriate or said anything he shouldn’t. He was nice, but not in a flirty type of way.

I’d thought Id heard him in his room one night, my name on his lips and the unmistakable sound of a man jerking off. The next morning, he wouldn’t look me in the eye and Id wondered if h’d been thinking of me while pleasuring himself. To some it might have seemed wrong, but after everything Id been through, I didn’t view life the way most people would. Despite my age, I hadn’t been a child in a long while, and back home my father could have easily married me off to someone by now. After the initial awkwardness with Rocket that morning, things had returned to normal between us, which meant he was treating me like a child in need of protection and not a woman. It aggravated me, more than just a little.

“Just a few weeks,” Luciana said from where she sat on the sofa.

“What?”

“You’re almost eighteen.”

I shrugged a shoulder. Rocket was protective, but it didn’t go further than that. I didn’t think it ever would. He’d already seen me naked that first day. Maybe I wasn’t his type. Just because Id heard him doing that and saying my name didn’t mean much. Men had needs, and I was the woman he saw day in and day out. It was likely that and nothing more. Id always thought men didn’t really have a type, that any woman would do, but then Id never met someone like him before. He’d not once brought a woman home. It didn’t mean he was’t seeing someone the times he wasn’t at the house, but I tried not to think about that.

“He cares about you,” she insisted.

“I know he does, but he doesn’t love me. Not the way a man loves a woman.” At least, it didn’t seem like he did. There were times I thought I caught a certain look in his eyes, but it was gone so fast Id convinced myself I was imagining things. Wishful thinking on my part.

“I know you think he doesn’t see you that way, but you’re wrong.”

Excerpt:

Don’t worry, Ms. Bevens, we’ve got you covered. I have a couple of detectives on standby. Marsh and Wallace are two of my best. They are ex-military and experienced. They have been briefed on the situation and are ready to move you to a secure location. You will be put into protective custody until Mann is located and apprehended.”
“Babysitters? No, thanks, Chief, it won’t come to that. I can take care of myself.”
“I don’t think you understand, Nicole. This isn’t a suggestion. This is a direct order. As your boss, I insist that you agree to being placed under protective custody.” He could see her mouth open to protest and he quickly held up his hand. “Just, until Mann is located, you will be off the clock.”
Nicole jumped to her feet, her eyes wide with disbelief. “James, you can’t do that. I have pending cases. You just had me pulled from court, for heaven’s sake. I’m in the middle of an important trial. The victim is counting on me. I can’t let her down.”
“I understand and I’ve already taken care of that. I have transferred your active cases to other attorneys in the office. The pending cases have been delayed whenever possible and reassigned to others when we were not able to get them deferred.” Perkins shook his head. “Don’t fight this, Nicole, because you won’t win. This order is coming from the top. We all know how dangerous Mann is and I’m not going to chance the life of my best prosecutor and especially one I consider a friend.”
Chief Howard stood up from behind his desk and cleared his throat. “Ms. Bevens, Detectives Marsh and Wallace are waiting to escort you to your home to gather some clothing prior to heading to the room we have reserved at a local hotel.” Chief made a hand motion and the door swung open. Entering were the two large men she had seen earlier. “Ms. Bevens, this is Detectives Marsh and Wallace. You will be in good hands.”
They smiled at her and Marsh stepped forward and offered his hand. “Trey Marsh, Ms. Bevens. We actually met once before last year in court. I testified at a hit-and-run you were prosecuting.”
His large, warm hand gripped Nicole’s and his smile lit up the room. He had caused her many sleepless nights, thinking of how his smooth, shaved head would feel between her thighs. Women in the courtroom had audibly sighed when he entered the room. His smile was infectious and Nicole smiled back. “Yes, I remember, Detective Marsh. We won, as I recall, thanks to your expert testimony. Sorry you’re now stuck on babysitting duty.”
He shrugged his massive shoulders and flashed that smile, and Nicole felt her core tingle and heat pool at her center. “It’s my pleasure, actually. The law enforcement community respects your hard-nose approach in the courtroom. We’re on the same side, to get the bad guys.” His voice was silky smooth like rich, melted chocolate. He had a way of pulling her into his circle and making her feel safe, warm, and welcome. Nicole liked that about him instantly.
“Ms. Bevens, I’m Jordan Wallace. Unlike Marsh, I haven’t had the pleasure yet.”
The boy next door on steroids gripped her hand and gave it a firm shake. His eyes were amazing. They were even bluer up close, his gaze hitting her body like laser beams, and instantly she felt her panties go wet. She squeezed her thighs together to contain the mini orgasm-shudder that coursed through her body.
“Thank you, Detective Wallace, the pleasure is mine.” Nicole’s eyes swept the room, landing on all four men. Being the only woman in a room full of men was not a new experience for her, but somehow this was different. She sensed that these men actually cared about keeping her safe. Never having known a father, this male protectiveness was a new one for her and she wasn’t sure how she felt about it. “Chief Howard, James, thank you.”
“Stay safe, Nicole. We’ll be in touch,” James said.
Chief Howard stood and shook her hand. “Ms. Bevens, rest assured the department will use every resource we can bring to the table to recapture Mann. He can’t hide from us forever.”
Nicole certainly hoped not. She needed her life back and the sooner the better. She turned to her assigned bodyguards. My goodness, being locked up with these two was going to be interesting. Especially when her body was reacting like a teenager with its first crush and her mind was playing what if games with her. Nicole shrugged. She was always up for a challenge and these two would certainly be that and more.

turns his quiet world upside down ‘A Thorned Rose in the Sand’ #Erotic #Interracial #Romance @LeaBronsen @evernightpub

Hi, and thank you for hosting me on your blog!

I got the idea for this story after watching a video of French “globe cooker” Fred Chesneau visiting nomads in the Moroccan desert. They generously shared their food, home, and wisdom with a stranger, and I thought it would be cool to write about a female rally driver having the same experience.

A Thorned Rose in the Sand is set in the beautiful, quiet dunes of western Sahara where the sun is so hot you can’t walk barefooted and you could go miles and miles without seeing a single soul. In this story, you’ll meet a badass 450cc rally motorcycle, an opiniated but gentle dromedary, and two highly strong-willed young persons from opposite sides of the planet who get off to a bad start then can’t keep their hands off each other 🙂

A Thorned Rose_banner.jpg

When life in a big U.S. city becomes too much, Stevie Jones decides to live her wildest dream – compete against the tough guys in a motorcycle rally across Morocco. But the real excitement is found away from the race track, in the shifting sands of the desert.

After his studies in London, Ragab has returned to the nomadic lifestyle of his Bedouin family and the majestic silence of the Sahara. He dreams of the perfect wife, until a beautiful but feisty biker stuck in a sand dune turns his quiet world upside down.

Excerpt

The girl screamed behind him. “Eeeeee!”

Too hard to resist. Until now, Ragab had had a difficult time respecting her privacy, but surely, a scream called for attention. What kind of a gentleman would he be if he didn’t check on a woman in distress?

He spun and found her kneeling on her jacket, nude and wet, arms outstretched in shock. He bit down a laugh. Yes, the deep well water was cold, but one got used to it, and in the extreme heat of the desert, it was a blessing.

She turned, caught him staring, and even though he couldn’t see anything inappropriate, she hurried to cover her breasts and pubic area. “Look away!” she shouted, voice panicky.

The laugh bubbled inside him, but he obediently turned back to the motorcycle—then stood in such a way he could see her reflection in one of the side mirrors.

Oh, it was like watching a porn scene. Her long, red curls hung wild over her back and round, white butt cheeks. Every time she moved, a portion of her breasts appeared in the space between her ribs and arms. Such perfect feminine curves, all over. Imagine if he saw the front…

Blood rushed to his groin. Stiffening, bothered, he tore from the sight, walked over to the well, and leaned against its waist-high wall, hoping the hardness of the bricks and coolness from the water below would temper his arousal before it became a full-blown erection.

So silent…

He strained to hear.

Splashes. Muffled squeals. More splashes.

He turned slowly and stole a glance from the corner of his eye.

She washed her panties and black top in the bucket and leaned forward to spread them in the sun. Her position exposed the dark pink lips of her sex, from the tiny hole in her butt to the end of her slit, where her clitoris hid.

Ooh!

Shocked to his core, he turned back and groaned low, his cock hardening again.

He closed his eyes, drew long, slow breaths to calm the painful throbbing and counted minutes, trying to think of something else.

His dromedary, for example. It would be cool to show her how to ride it. What if he rode another one, and they both galloped on the dunes together, she laughing, ecstatic…

Then they’d roll in the sand, and he would tease her thighs apart and slide his hungry hardness into her dark pink lips, to the wet bottom of her. Oh, yes.

She called, “Ready?”

He risked a glance in her direction.

Wearing one of his sisters’ dresses and looking divine with her red curls floating behind her—and her face white and clean—she strolled to the motorcycle, carrying a bag and her clothes. She stuffed everything on top of the fuel tanks, got up, lifted the dress to her knees, and started the motor.

Not once looking at him.

In 2017 Suzy was nominated for the Best Established Author in the Australian Romance Today Readers’ Choice Award. She made it through all the rounds to reach the finals. She came 8th in that final round against some extremely talented and well-known Australian Romance Authors.

A Buddhist, Suzy is single and lives in the Western Suburbs of Sydney, Australia with one very spoilt dog and two equally spoilt cats keeping her company.

Her books always feature older heroes and heroines; ranging from mid 40s to 60s. The heroines are usually confident plus-sized women who are proud of their curves. Suzy feels it’s important for readers to connect. When she discovered many romance books seemed to cater for younger readers with their heroines and heroes in the 20s she decided to write about characters who were older but maybe not always wiser. As she is in her 60s Suzy feels she can relate to her characters desires, fears and hopes and hopes her readers can as well.

Suzy also wants her readers to understand just because people are older doesn’t mean they aren’t intriguing, desirable, open to challenges and willing to experiment. Sexy isn’t just for the under 30s.

When Suzy is not writing, she is usually painting – an accomplished watercolour Artist her subjects range from portraits and animals to nudes and landscapes. Art Blog

~ * ~ EXCERPT ~ * ~

Somehow, I’d managed to keep on my feet when the big wave crashed over Anabelle and me. She surfaced, spluttering, and I held out a hand. She let me help her up and I held her hand a little longer than necessary.

“Thank you, John.”

“You’re welcome. That was one big wave.”

“Sure was, but it’s fun.”

I leaned toward her and our lips touched.

It was all I’d dreamed of and more. It was electrifying.

Our kiss was soft, tender, and a little unsure until I felt her press toward me. I put a hand behind her head and deepened the kiss. Oh yeah, I could get used to this.

We finally separated and gazed at each other. Her eyes had dilated slightly and her lips parted as she stared into my eyes.

“I couldn’t resist.”

“I … neither could I, John.”

“I’d certainly like to do it again.”

“Then maybe you should.”

We stood there, the waves crashing around us, as I kissed her again. This time I took my time reveling in the taste of her, mixed with the salty water. Her hands pressed against my chest.

When we stopped, I whispered, “I’ve wanted to kiss you since I first saw you reading.”

“You have?”

I nodded and traced her lips. Her eyes seemed to shut of their own accord as my fingers explored her gorgeous, full mouth. When she opened her eyes, I decided I should kiss her again.

It was wild.

The surf pounding against us, the sound of the ocean, and Anabelle in my arms. Another big wave hit us and sent us both under. I grabbed her hand as we fought our way back up to the surface.

“Sadly I have to accept that kissing and big waves don’t mix very well.”

She gave another of her lovely carefree laughs.

After sexy cover model Yushka proposed, life is more turbulent than ever for erotic romance author Andrea. He is expecting a baby with his ex-girlfriend, who says she doesn’t want to keep it. How will Andrea’s sons take upcoming life changes? To make things more complicated, her ex goes to great lengths to coax her back, and one of her sons’ girlfriend is a tad too interested in Andrea’s young and very handsome fiancé…

On the writing front, Andrea anxiously awaits news on her latest manuscript submission, and she has to decide whether to accept her publisher’s offer to model in a sexy photo shoot—the same kind she and Yushka did in Cannes—in the hopes of making a new “Cover Photo of the Year”. Considering the erotic poses the previous photographer demanded, can Andrea model with another guy other than Yushka?

~ * ~ EXCERPT ~ * ~

We enter a hall so big the tiniest sound echoes. It’s quite humbling. I shrink in my clothes and barely dare to breathe. Dark wood furniture towers over us, with a mix of contradictory smells—orchid-scented sanitizer and old dust—filling the space.

Shoes clamping on a hardwood floor, we follow the tall, silver-haired man into a living room with exquisite furniture, gold-framed mirrors, and classic paintings on the walls. Heavy velvet curtains adorn the windows, and an impressive floor-to-ceiling library on one side has to contain literary curiosities from every part of the world. Marveling, I study each magnificent object.

The man stops and glares across the room, his facial expression clearly one of annoyance. What an oppressive atmosphere.

Yushka stands beside him and stares in the same direction.

I follow their gaze. A young and strikingly beautiful woman is half-seated on a green velvet couch with her legs folded underneath her. Dark doe eyes and pink lips stand out in a pale, oval face. A waterfall of rich, glowing auburn-colored hair contrasts with her white dress. She looks cast in a scene from the Russian classic Doctor Zhivago. Beneath full breasts, a pregnant belly protrudes, far too round and big for her frail frame. Jekaterina?

My chest tightens. The more I look at her, the more her beauty takes my breath away. She’s the woman Yushka was in love with last year. The one he slept with and impregnated.

Her gaze is riveted on him, the recognition and warmth fiery.

I shoot him a glance. His features are tight, as if he’s trying to hide his reaction, but he doesn’t take his gaze off her. This is exactly what I feared. They’ve had feelings for each other. Maybe meeting now will revive them. He has fallen for her once, so why would he not fall for her again?

I feel bad, nauseous, want to get out of here. But she’s carrying the baby girl I’m going to call mine very soon. I need to overcome my unease. Hopefully, once the formalities are done, this is the only time we’ll have to meet.

She tells him a few words in Russian, her voice the cooing of a turtledove.

Yushka replies calmly, but his throat sounds choked. He grabs my hand, palm sweaty, and leads me to a sofa opposite hers. His discomfort is more than clear in his features. He tears his gaze from her and searches me, his expression vibrating with an intensity I seldom see. It hits me—he’s afraid.

I squeeze his hand. “Is everything okay?”

“Yes,” he replies instantly, but his tension is palpable.

My chest tightens to a painful level. What is he so nervous about? From his interaction with Jekaterina, this has nothing to do with the baby. It’s about them, their relationship, and me. Is he afraid he’ll have to choose between us?

Goodness, I’m delirious. I sit very still, take small, shallow breaths, and pray for everything to be all right. Then bolt out of this house after the arrangements are resolved.

Jekaterina addresses me, her dark pupils glimmering. “You’re very beautiful. Are you a model, too?”

I’m as taken aback by her speaking a fluent English as I am by her compliment, and need a few seconds to shake myself. “Um, no, I’m not.”

She raises a brow. “That’s funny. I would’ve sworn you were a model. So how did you two meet?”

“At an author conference.”

Yushka clears his throat. “Andrea writes books, and I’m featured on the cover of her last one.”

“Oh, how exciting.” Her lips curve upward. I can’t decide whether it’s a genuine smile or she’s faking it.

“Yes,” he continues. “That’s why we … uh … were bound to meet. They had organized a Meet-and-Greet for authors and cover models of their books.” Why does he sound like he’s trying to make an excuse?

She flutters her long lashes at me. “What kind of books do you write?”

Before I can answer, her father walks over to a cabinet and picks up a bunch of papers. “All right, enough chit-chat.” His voice booms like thunder.

Alexi put his mug down and stood in front of her, tilting her face up with one hand. “Yes, I must rehearse, and yes, you must write. But there is no need to run away like a scared little girl from the wolf.” He bent over to kiss her.

Sherry wanted that kiss more than she wanted her venti skim latte, and with her throbbing head, that was a lot. But she put her hand on his bare chest, stopping him.

He looked at her, confusion dawning in his eyes, followed quickly by hurt. He stepped back. “Oh. I see. You have your story now.” His voice was cold.

“It’s not like that,” she said. Was this just a case of bruised ego, or was he genuinely hurt? She flashed back to what the bartender said about the type of girls Alexi normally brought to the bar. Party girls, he said.

“So what is it like?” He turned away from her, looking out the window.

She reached out a hand to put it on his shoulder, the one with the tattoo of Tolstoy’s face on it, but thought better of it. “Look, Alexi. I’ve already crossed more ethical boundaries than I’m comfortable with.”

“To get your story.” His voice was flat, his arms crossed over his chest.

“Hey, it’s my job to get the story. I came ready to interview you like I interview all my subjects. The vodka, the kisses, that was your game.”

He turned suddenly, his green gaze pinning her. She couldn’t look away. “You didn’t want to play?”

“No. I mean, yes. I did…” she started.

He moved closer to her, his hand cupping her jaw. “I know you did. I think you still want to,” he whispered, his breath warm on her cheek.

His lips touched hers.

He pulled back slightly. “Do you want to play, Sherry?”

She was having a hard time regulating her breath. He was so close. She put her hands on his chest, but not to hold him back. She ran her hands over his chest, nipples hard under her palm, then down over the ridges of his abs. She hooked her fingers into his waistband, pulling him toward her in response to his question. She wanted to play any game he had in mind as long as it involved what was under his pants, ethics be damned.

“Yes,” she said.
