Gideon Valsecchi had done the impossible when he busted out of the grueling poverty and pre-ordained existence his life had been on the South Side of Chicago. His free ride at college is the stepping stone to a career with a professional soccer team. And when his dream comes true it’s not what he expects—sacrifice shouldn’t taste this bitter, especially when the love of his life is what he’s missing and can’t seem to hold on to.

Elijah Tucker wants to give Gideon Valsecchi the world on a silver platter. And he has the means to do it. But Eli is learning the truth of the maxim that the way you hold onto the thing you want most is to let it go. And while his heart breaks into a thousand pieces, he doesn’t come apart even when the worst happens. Because, even as cliché as it sounds…true love does find a way.

Read an Excerpt:

“Are you feeling a’right?” Gideon asked finally, unable to hold out any longer. He sighed when the only response he received was the quiet, even breaths of a sleeping Elijah. He stared up at the ceiling fan, noticing a reflection in the chrome accents of the city lights that lay just beyond the window.

Gideon knew he needed to sleep. His day had been long and he anticipated that the next one would be even longer. Regardless of how much he attempted to halt its activity, it was difficult to calm his brain down as it tried to wrap itself around Elijah’s out-of-the-ordinary demeanor.

“Are you asleep?” he whispered, though he already knew that he was. Biting his lip, Gideon decided to be brave, although he wasn’t sure how courageous it actually was to speak to a sleeping man. “Elijah,” he began, attempting to wrap his lips around words that seemed too big for his mouth. “I love you.”

It felt strange to admit, even though he knew it was true. Elijah gave him things that he’d never had before, and none of them had anything to do with money. He anchored him with stability, security, and love. “I love you,” Gideon repeated, thinking that it wasn’t that difficult after all. He’d said it and he felt better, lighter, like he passed a threshold of demons who had sought to keep him from moving forward.

The room was still, but he was floating, high above the internal struggles he’d unnecessarily doomed himself to. He repeated it a few more times, feeling better every time he said it, like he’d found a release he never knew he’d needed. “I really fucking love you,” he said with a yawn, letting his heavy eyelids fall.

“I love you too,” Elijah whispered sleepily, grinning up at Gideon, whose eyes shot open in response.

“Asshole,” Gideon muttered, feeling his cheeks flush warm. “I asked you if you were a’right and you didn’t answer.”

“I was sleeping. You woke me up when you said you love me.” He shrugged. “I don’t know if you realize, but I’m hyper tuned in to anytime you say ‘love.’ I’m obsessed with hearing it, even when you’re just talking about chicken nuggets.”

“That’s weird,” Gideon chided without malice. “You’re so weird.”

“Yeah, well, you love me.”

“I do.”

“Maybe you’re weird, too.”

“Or maybe I’m not weird at all,” Gideon reasoned. After all, loving Elijah made all the sense in the world.

“Okay, Captain Confession. Go to sleep or you’re going to tell me you can’t sleep over when you’re too tired tomorrow.”

Groaning at the stupid nickname, Gideon tilted his head down to kiss his boyfriend’s forehead.

“Tell me one more time though,” Elijah requested, drawing a laugh from Gideon.

“I love you.”

And damn did it feel good.

“Leave it to me, Clary. We’ll have you looking sexy and professional in no time.” She looped her arm in mine and was all bouncy.

“Not sexy, only professional,” I said.

“Don’t lay that virgin crap on me. You’re working for the hottest guy in town,” she blurted so loudly people’s heads turned.

“Tell the whole of LA, why don’t you?” I snapped.

“You’ve got a figure to die for and a face like Natalie Wood’s,” Tabitha said, dragging me along by my hand.

“Tabs, need I keep reminding you that I’m employed as a PA?”

“I know, I know. But there’s no harm in making the most of your assets,” she said, sounding more like an ambitious mother by the minute.

We passed “Yesterday’s Child” my favorite vintage shop. Instincts fully aroused, I headed for the doorway. Tabitha pulled me back. “No vintage, Clary, only contemporary, stylish, and sexy.”

“Vintage can be super classy and fashionable,” I argued. Although she was right, I had a pathological addiction to 1960s clothes. Tabitha said it was because I was trying to emulate my late mother. I couldn’t disagree. My mother and I were so alike in build that I still wore her clothes. It was an obsession that had caused much trouble at college, at least until vintage became fashion. Then the bullies suddenly regarded my Mondrian-inspired mini worn over white patent-leather boots with envy.

“Let’s go there.” Tabitha pointed to an enormous department store. I followed along submissively.

About the Author:

50 Shades of Grey was the first contemporary romance book I’d ever read. Up to that point, I’d spent my entire reading life buried in literature.

But then, one day, I picked up 50 Shades of Grey and couldn’t put it down. Impressed by their heart-felt, down to earth portrayal of love and sex, I quickly developed a voracious appetite for contemporary romance books. I was so inspired by the genre that I decided to explore that world as a writer.

After completing a certificate in Writing Romance with the Australian College of Journalism I embarked on writing three books. All of which are still sitting on my computer.

Then Aidan Thornhill entered my imagination and came alive on paper. From that moment, like all emotional love stories, nothing else mattered. I fell in love. And was compelled to write, almost in a frenzy, every day without fail. I am presently working on my latest novel – The Importance of Being Wild.

They’ve come together for Valentine’s Day, but can the romance last?

Read an Excerpt:

“I meant to say something, but I got so wrapped up in that review…” Brandon met Aydin’s gaze. “Babe, I’m sorry. I should’ve asked first.”

Aydin closed his eyes and rubbed his temple. He needed a moment to think. Talk about a Valentine’s surprise. What was done was done, and he couldn’t get Brandon to take the works down—not when they were part of an exhibition. Maybe people wouldn’t realize he was the one in the image.

“You’re mad.” Brandon bridged the gap between them and draped one of his legs over Aydin’s. “Babe.”

Aydin opened his eyes. Being so close to Brandon, smelling his cologne and feeling the warmth from his body seeping into Aydin’s comforted him. “I’m disappointed that you hadn’t mentioned it to me until now, but I can’t be mad. That’s your art, and I volunteered to sit for you. I knew there was a chance you’d put those images into a show.” He brushed his knuckles down Brandon’s cheek. “If we ever do anymore nudes and any with us in bed together, they will not go on display unless I know first and have given you permission. Those are our intimate moments. I don’t want to share all of them.”

“Understood.” Brandon leaned in and kissed Aydin. “I’m horrible with relationships. It’s hard, and I’m going to screw up again. I know it.”

“No, you’re still learning. We both are.” He held Brandon’s hands in his. “It’s a big step going from casual to monogamy. Some people can’t do it.” Aydin suppressed a chuckle. Normally, he was the one with the worries and fears. With Brandon on his side, he’d realized his strengths and wasn’t the timid man he’d been. He wasn’t ugly or horrible—no, he was loyal, had faith in people when most others didn’t, compassionate, and dying to be loved.

There’d forever been a thread running through Trevor Estes’s life—his son Riley, strong and constant like heartbeat. But when Riley is killed in combat, everything in Trevor’s life unravels into a mess he doesn’t know how to mourn.

Until Jesse Byrne, Riley’s friend and platoon mate, arrives on his doorstep with a box of Riley’s things. Jesse’s all-too-familiar grief provides an unlikely source of comfort for Trevor; knowing he’s not alone is exactly what he needs. Trevor never imagined he’d find someone who fills his heart with hope again. As the pair celebrate Riley’s memory, their unique bond deepens into something irreplaceable—and something neither man can live without.

But diving into a relationship can’t be so simple. Being together means Trevor risking the last link he has to his son…leaving Jesse to wonder if he’ll ever be enough, or if Trevor will always be haunted by the past.

Read an Excerpt:

Jesse headed inside, amused at the sight of Trevor making himself at home by brewing some coffee. His brown hair was flattened on one side, sticking up on the other, and he had a red crease in his cheek from where it’d been pressing against his hand.

Trevor was wearing an old pair of jeans that hung loosely on his thin frame, and a T-shirt with the sleeves pushed up to his elbows. His hands were long-fingered and graceful, and Jesse noticed with a jolt that he was wearing Riley’s watch, the oversize face almost swallowing his slender wrist.

The memory of Trevor stroking his tattoo a few hours ago sent another wave of inappropriate desire surging through him, and Jesse gulped. Jesus, get a grip! I’m his son’s friend! He won’t ever see me as anything but a kid.

And why should he? Besides Trevor being older, and way more experienced, he was dealing with a ton of emotional baggage, not the least of which, his recent breakup with the man he’d intended to marry, for fuck’s sake.

Get a grip, asshole. Seriously. He’s way out of your league and the last thing he needs is some stupid kid mooning over him. What he needs is a friend.

Raven:

I’ve spent my life depending on one person: myself. I’ve learned the hard way other people will only let me down. I’ve worked for everything I have, but thanks to my drug-addicted mother, I’m about to lose the one thing I’ve craved for years. Needing to make some extra cash, I ask my boss at Restrained Fantasies, a Dallas BDSM club, for some extra shifts. Much to my chagrin, Master Carter Burkes is with him, and Carter leaps to my rescue, bound and determined to save me—only I’m not the kind of girl who needs to be saved.

Carter:

I can’t sit by while Raven, a recurring figure in my fantasies, is in trouble. My job as a detective keeps me busy, but I’m not looking for a relationship, just a sub to assist with a class I’m teaching: Reading Your Submissive. Raven always claimed she wasn’t a member of the lifestyle, so imagine my surprise when I discover a budding submissive inside her. She gets under my skin in ways I can’t fight, but emotions are dangerous. I learned that the hard way. Is getting close to Raven a mistake? Will I destroy her life like I destroyed the life of the only woman I’ve ever loved?

This is book two in the Restrained Fantasies series but can be read as a standalone.

Publisher’s Note: This romance is intended for adults only. It contains elements of danger, suspense, mystery, BDSM, sensual scenes, romance and adult language. If any of these offend you, please do not purchase.

Read an Excerpt:

Raven punched the elevator button and waited for the doors to open. Damn her fucking mother. Damn her, damn her, damn her. Ten thousand dollars. How the hell was Raven supposed to come up with that kind of money by the end of the month?

Who fucking screwed over their own child this way?

She fisted her hands at her side and fought the urge to punch more than the elevator button. Taking out another loan or getting new credit cards with credit limits large enough to help was out of the question. She was over-extended as it was; served her right for trying to help the bitch in the first place. After helping her mom out with attorney fees and bail after her last arrest, Raven had been left holding the bag. She still couldn’t believe her mom had skipped on bail. Again. And crazier still, Raven didn’t know why she’d bothered helping in the first place. That had been her first—twentieth?—mistake.

Meth was slowly destroying Raven’s life, and she’d never touched the stuff.

The elevator doors slid open, and Viv Michaels strutted through. Viv was the boss’ sub and the love of his life. She was a sweet, vivacious woman Raven had come to like a lot.

Viv was dressed in her usual club fare. Black fuck-me boots, red miniskirt, and a matching leather corset which barely contained her ample breasts. She was the boss’ perfect match in every way—and it made Raven a whole lot envious. She’d never trusted anyone enough to let them in, let alone have what Viv and the boss had.

Viv’s lips curved into a friendly smile. “Hey, Raven. How’re you?”

Raven forced herself to return the other woman’s smile. “I’m good.”

Viv’s gaze sharpened. “You sure? You look… upset.”

“Just having a bit of a tough time today, but everything will work itself out. It always does.” More likely it won’t. It never did.

Over the years, she’d gotten damn good at lying about her emotions or redirecting the conversation, so with luck, Viv would take the near-lie at face value and move on. Because this problem wouldn’t work itself out. She might as well face reality and get used to it.

She’d be homeless by the end of the month. Viv placed her hand on Raven’s arm and gave it a reassuring squeeze.

“Okay. Just know I’m here if you need to talk.”

The offer warmed Raven. Part of her acknowledged the impulse to accept Viv’s offer, hug her close, and let the tears come. The other part, however, the stronger part, reminded her trusting another person only ended in disaster. She’d had enough tragedies in her life already. The only person she could depend on was herself.

“I’ll keep your offer in mind,” Raven lied.

“Good.” Viv flashed another smile and then headed toward the boss’ office. She seemed so sweet and sincere. Maybe, if Raven was very lucky, she could trust Viv.

Yeah, and maybe someday, Raven would have more than two fond memories of her mother.

Raven stepped onto the elevator and pressed the button for the ground floor. She still needed to go home before her regular shift. She’d come straight from the bank, and she wasn’t exactly dressed for—

“Hey, Raven, wait up!” Someone forced their arm through the sliding doors and kept them from closing. When they opened again, she found herself staring at the handsome face of Carter Burkes. And her libido jumped to immediate attention; it usually did when he was around.

The sexy cop might be close to ten years her senior, but he wore his age like a badge of honor. Defined biceps and triceps bulged from the sleeves of his black T-shirt. The cotton stretched over his trim torso in all the right places, and his leather pants did little to cover the contour of muscular legs she’d admired more than once in the club.

A few strands of gray decorated the hair at his temples; otherwise, the perfectly messy brown locks appeared thick and lush. More than once, she’d had to squash the temptation to bury her fingers into the strands just to see if they were as soft as she’d imagined.

A day’s worth of growth covered his cheeks and square jawline. And damn those dimples. Why’d they have to amp his fuckability to stupid levels? Didn’t she have enough shit to worry about?

About the Author:

Brandi Evans was raised by a caravan of traveling Gypsies. She spent her days learning the ways of her people and her nights lost in legends as old as time. Okay, not really, but that’s way more interesting than the truth!

In reality, Brandi grew up the oldest child of an ordinary family. Grade school, middle school, high school. Nothing extraordinary happened until she left the nest. She joined the military, went to college, got married, and became a mom. And somewhere along the way, she discovered she liked to read—and write!—stories hot enough to melt eReaders.

Michael:

Two years ago I made a mistake, a big one, and then I threw in another couple just for good measure. I screwed up my life big time but I made it through. I was lucky.

Then I was given the opportunity for a fresh start. Two years in Auckland, NZ, ‘The City of Sails’. Away from the LA gossip, a chance to breathe, to get my life back together. I grabbed it and packed my new set of golden rules with me.

I don’t do relationships.

I don’t do commitment.

I don’t do white picket fences.

And I especially don’t do arrogant, holier-than-thou, smoking hot K9 officers who walk into my ER and rock my world.

Josh:

The only thing I know for certain about Dr. Michael Oliver is the guy is an arrogant, untrustworthy player, and I’d barely survived the last one of those in my life. Once was more than enough. The man might be gorgeous but my eleven-year-old daughter takes number one priority and I won’t risk her being hurt, again. I’m a solo dad, a K9 cop and a son to pain in the ass, bigoted parents.

I don’t have time for games.

I don’t have time for taking chances.

I don’t have time for more complications in my life.

And I sure as hell don’t have time for the infuriating Dr. Michael Oliver, however damn sexy he is.

~ * ~ EXCERPT ~ * ~

The young officer behind Josh attempted to block the man’s escape only to have the knife sweep up and slice his defensive arm from wrist to shoulder. The intruder then threw him against the wall with a sickening crack and the officer slid to the floor, a spray of bright red blood arcing up against the cream paint.

Arterial. Shit. Michael instinctively surged from under the table toward the injured officer but stopped short when he realized his movement had drawn the intruder’s attention. They locked eyes, staring at each other for no more than a few seconds before the knifeman lurched toward him. Michael stumbled back against the wall just as the shepherd erupted from the corridor to his right and hurled himself at the knife once again. The guy’s arm spun in a wide arc toward the airborne animal, sending it careening into the bar. The act granted the man enough time to make it out the front door before the dog scrambled to its feet in pursuit.

“Paris!” the handler shouted as he caught sight of his colleague sprawled in a pool of blood on the floor, but the dog was gone. “Damn.” He spoke urgently into his radio then fell to his knees alongside the young officer. A commotion from the other side of the emergency exit broke in waves through the bar but the handler ignored it, focused solely on his injured colleague and putting pressure on the pumping wound as he shook the young man’s shoulder. “Jackson!”

In seconds, Michael was on his knees alongside the handler, dimly aware of the other man’s heat as their thighs pressed together. The wound was pumping big. “Move,” he ordered the man without thinking, only realizing his mistake too late.

a past that pursues her #Fantasy #Romance #DLieber @GoddessFish

~ * ~ TOPIC du JOUR ~ * ~

I asked D. Lieber, “How did you get your start in writing and what fuels you to continue?” and here is the response.

Writing for me began as a way to release emotions when I was feeling overwhelmed. When I was younger, I wrote poetry to deal with life. I wrote about everything from first love to the death of my grandfather. At that time, I only really shared my work with family and close friends.

I never thought I was anything special until my poetry professor in college took me aside and urged me to pursue a master’s in poetry. I was flattered, of course, but I was far too worried about feeding myself after I graduated. Oh, how I admire people who throw caution to the wind and pursue their artistic dreams!

In any case, I’d always had a secret desire to write fiction, but I honestly believed I didn’t have to imagination for it. I felt compelled to try my hand at it when an author on a panel at a convention told the audience that she wrote stories she wanted to read that hadn’t been written yet. This struck me in just the right way, and I thought: if I’m only writing for my own entertainment, I don’t have to worry if it’s good or not. Well, once Conjuring Zephyr was finished, I figured it didn’t hurt to submit it to publishers and agents. I mean, if I enjoyed it, others might as well, right? And thus began my journey as a fiction author.

As far as what fuels me to continue, that is the stories and my desire to find out what happens. I still write for myself and my own entertainment. When I get a story idea, it just keeps nagging me until I complete it. It’s the same reason I kept a notepad by my bed at night when I was growing up. The words will torment me until they get out.

She takes a dangerous job on a merchant airship, hoping a life on the move will keep her well-hidden. Sure, she misses her brother, but years of apathy have numbed her emotions.

When the optimistic and naïve Reilley follows her, it’s annoying to say the least. But when she starts feeling responsible for him, long-stifled emotions crack the ice around her heart.

Faeries, pirates, and traveling players meet in this steampunk fantasy adventure as Ember tries to cope with feelings long forgotten and a past that pursues her.

I scanned the crowd, but there was no sign of them. My stomach lurched, and I swallowed my panic. I moved as quickly as I could to the place where Reilley had just stood.

To the right was a dim alley with curtained doors lining the sides. I shot into the shady street.

“Reilley?” I called and received no answer.

Up ahead, a curtain covered the light that spilled into the alley. I rushed for that doorway. Ripping open the curtain, I lunged inside.

In the small room, two men sat on crates playing cards on a box in between them. They looked up as I entered.

“Where is he?”

Neither responded as they returned to their game. I spotted a door at the back of the room and barreled toward it. The two men moved to stop me.

“I don’t have time for this,” I told them as they blocked my way.

The one closest to the door I wanted to get through crossed his thick arms over his chest and lifted his chin, looking down at me with a smirk. His wirier friend stepped toward me and pointed the way I’d come.

“This party is closed,” he said with a heavy accent. “If you don’t have an invitation, leave.”

“I just need to get my friend. Then, I’ll leave.”

He shook his head and grabbed my upper arm to escort me out. “You will leave now.”

I rotated my elbow and broke his grip then pulled back and drove the heel of my hand into his nose.
